What Is Ole Smoky Distillery in Nashville?
With roots deep in the Smoky Mountains, Ole Smoky got its start the way most moonshine operations did: family recipes perfected in secret over copper pot stills hidden from prying eyes. For generations, the tradition stayed underground until 2009, when a change in Tennessee state law made Ole Smoky the first legal moonshine distillery in the state.
Over the years, the brand has expanded from its original location in Gatlinburg to the neighboring town of Pigeon Forge, and now all the way to the heart of Music City! While every Ole Smoky location offers samples, merch, and its own dose of history, the Ole Smoky Distillery in Nashville takes things to another level.
Located at 6th & Peabody, it’s more than a distillery; it’s a full-blown experience. Think small-batch moonshine, locally brewed craft beer, two on-site restaurants, live music, and enough entertainment to fill an entire city block.
Sip and Sample: Moonshine Tastings + More

If it’s your first time visiting, or even your tenth, a moonshine tasting should be at the top of your list. It’s not just a sample flight; it’s a full-blown experience. You’ll get the rundown on Ole Smoky’s best-sellers, seasonal exclusives, and new releases, plus ideas on how to mix, serve, or snack your way through your favorite jars.
Insider picks? We’re partial to the Mountain Java (think coffee meets chocolate milk), Blackberry (mix it with lemonade for the perfect summer drink), and the Moonshine Pineapples (like a bite-sized piña colada!).

Eat Like a Local: Tacos, Hot Dogs, and Cold Beer

When the moonshine starts to hit and you need a bite to balance things out, 6th & Peabody has you covered. On-site, you’ll find two fan-favorite food spots: White Duck Taco Shop and Daddy’s Dogs, each offering something totally different but equally satisfying.
White Duck Taco Shop
This isn’t your average taco joint. The menu leans creative and bold, with flavors like:
- Thai Peanut Chicken
- Crispy Pork Belly
- Spicy Buffalo Chicken
Prefer plant-based? Any taco can be made vegetarian with jackfruit as a meat replacement. For kids or picky eaters, stick with a chicken quesadilla, plain beef taco, or chips and queso—all easy wins.
Daddy’s Dogs Hot Dogs
Out in the beer garden, you’ll find Nashville’s most beloved hot dog shack. Daddy’s Dogs has been voted Best Hot Dog in Nashville by Nashville Scene’s “Best Of” awards, and it lives up to the hype.
Don’t miss:
- The Chili Dog – classic and messy in all the right ways
- The Mac Daddy – topped with creamy mac ‘n cheese
- Tots – a golden, salty sidekick
Pro Move: Pair it with a Yee-Haw Beer!
Whether you’re taco-ing inside or grabbing a dog outdoors, pair your meal with a cold pour from Yee-Haw Brewing Co. on-site. They rotate in small-batch brews alongside their core beers, so whether you’re into a crisp Cerveza Mexican lager or a seasonal seltzer, there’s always a good match for whatever’s on your plate.
Stay for the Show: Music, Sports & Events

With 30,000 square feet of space, Ole Smoky Nashville is packed with ways to hang out, kick back, and be entertained. Weekends bring live music to the main indoor stage, and during football season and March Madness, their 21-foot video wall makes it the ultimate spot to catch the game.
Step outside, and the beer garden takes center stage with local writers rounds, full-band shows, and DJ sets that get the party started.
In the warmer months, the energy ramps up even more. You might stumble onto a pop-up workout class or catch the chaos of trike races during the Nashville Grand Prix. If there’s a way to put a moonshine spin on a local event, Ole Smoky will find it.
Want to see what’s on the calendar during your stay? Check out the 6th & Peabody events page for the latest happenings.
Heads up: National Moonshine Week takes place June 1–7. If you're in town during that stretch, don't miss it. There’s always something wild in the works.

No problem—mini bottle packs are TSA-friendly and perfect for carry-ons. Want to stock up? Buy six jars or bottles (mix and match however you like) and you’ll get a free branded cooler that can be checked on its own.
The retail space is stacked with fun, locally themed merch—think Yee-Haw Brewery t-shirts and Ole Smoky gear repping flavors like Blue Flame and Yee-Hazy IPA, and even pet swag like moonshine chew toys and branded collars. Local Tips (What Most People Miss)

With such a large space to explore, it’s easy to overlook some of the best parts of the Ole Smoky campus, especially if you enter through the shop and head straight to the tasting bar (which, to be fair, we don’t blame you for doing).
Here’s a quick lay of the land, so you don’t miss a thing:
Navigating 6th & Peabody
Main Brick Building Entrance:
- Walk in through the red brick building and you’ll find yourself in the retail space and tasting bar.
- After your tasting, follow the path to the left past the indoor stage.
- Keep going to find White Duck Taco on the right and the main bar on the left.
Beer Garden Gate Entrance:
- This entrance drops you straight into the outdoor space near Daddy’s Dogs, where there’s a walk-up window bar for easy drink orders.
- Just past Daddy’s Dogs, follow the small alley for a self-guided distilling tour, yard games (like giant beer pong and ping pong), and picnic-style seating.
The Hidden Gem: 7P Building
In the beer garden, look for the blue concrete building with the huge Yee-Haw mural, staff call this space “7P.”
Inside, you’ll find:
- An overflow bar featuring frozen cocktail flavors not available inside the main building
- A limited selection of draft beers (usually around four on tap)
- A wide variety of canned Yee-Haw beers, especially the core year-round flavors
- A free arcade with classics like Golden Tee, Big Buck Hunter, and a claw machine stocked with Ole Smoky and Yee-Haw merch
(Note: tastings aren’t available here; but it’s a great spot to go when crowds get rowdy.)
Even More to Discover
- Shipping container seating to the left of 7P gives you a semi-private perch overlooking the action
- On select weekends, they break out the on-site Airstream bar for pop-up pours. You’ll also find someone pouring from the kegerator on busy days, especially in summer, so it’s always easy to grab a drink!
